Baum family papers 1769-1974.

Genealogical information, personal correspondence, deeds and mortgage, business, estate and financial papers and printed ephemera concerning members of the Winebiddle and Baum families. Many items document the extensive landholdings of Philip Winebiddle and his granddaughter, Susanna Winebiddle Brown Baum, in the Friendship, Garfield and East Liberty sections of Pittsburgh and Erie, Pa. Notable items include letters of James Scott Negley and William Cunningham Winebiddle on their experiences in the Mexican War ; Lafayette Winebiddle's rolls of the Allegheny County Light Dragoons ; letters and newspaper clippings concerning the death of William Y. Brown and the 1858 explosion of the steamboat Pennsylvania ; family letters and other material from the estate of Robert Burns King ; and letters and scrapbooks of Kate Johnston Baum Shillito. The Baum and Winebiddle families were prominent farmers and landowners in the East Liberty section of Pittsburgh during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The two families were allied through the 1892 marriage of Susanna Winebiddle Brown with William Winebiddle Baum ; both were great grandchildren of early Allegheny County settler John Conrad Winebiddle.
